Your adventure begins in the late afternoon. We will meet you at our guesthouse in the village. Here, you can securely park your car and pack a small overnight bag for the desert. Then, your camel will be waiting to carry you into the heart of the Erg Chebbi dunes. These are some of the tallest and most spectacular sand dunes in Morocco.
The trek takes approximately 90 minutes. This gives you time to settle into the rhythm of the camel’s gait as the landscape transforms around you. Most importantly, we time it perfectly for you to witness one of Morocco’s most spectacular sunsets. You’ll watch the colors shift from gold to orange to deep purple over the endless sea of sand.
Along the way, we pause so you can capture stunning photos of the ever-changing light. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can also try the thrill of sandboarding down the smooth slopes of the dunes. It’s an exhilarating experience for all ages.
As dusk settles, we continue to our desert camp, which is nestled in a sheltered spot among the dunes. Upon arrival, you’ll be greeted with a glass of traditional mint tea and warm Berber hospitality. As a Berber family, we take great pride in sharing our authentic culture with visitors.
Afterward, you’ll settle into your private tent. Each one is equipped with comfortable mattresses, blankets, and basic amenities. Once you are refreshed, enjoy a delicious, home-cooked Moroccan dinner prepared over an open fire. The meal includes tagines, salads, and bread baked in the desert sand.
After dinner, gather around a crackling campfire for an evening of live Berber drumming. The rhythm of the drums echoes across the dunes as you sip tea. Meanwhile, you can gaze up at a breathtaking canopy of stars, unobscured by city lights. This is the moment when the Sahara truly reveals its magic.
We recommend an early start the next day. Your camel guide will wake you in time to watch the magnificent sunrise paint the silent dunes in soft light. As the first rays touch the sand, you’ll understand why this moment is considered the desert’s greatest gift.
Following this magical experience, a hearty breakfast awaits at the camp. There are also hot showers available to refresh you before the journey back.
Once you are ready, you can choose your return journey. For instance, you can ride the camels back to our starting point in the village, retracing your path through the morning light. Alternatively, you may opt for a comfortable 4×4 transfer directly from the camp for a quicker return. Either way, you’ll leave the Sahara with memories to last a lifetime.
