4 Day Tour from Tangier Via Rabat and Chefchaouen

Day 1 – Tangier to Rabat (Coastal Journey & Medina Tour)

Upon arrival in Tangier—depending on whether you arrive by ferry or plane—our Moroccan driver will meet you and transfer you to Rabat, an old imperial capital of domes and minarets, sweeping terraces, wide avenues, and green spaces.

The route travels via Larache, an Andalusian and Arab town on the Atlantic coast with a distinctive character. Once in Rabat, a guided city tour of the main attractions is scheduled. Visit the picturesque Oudaia Kasbah, a fortress overlooking the Atlantic. Explore the Medina, which contains the city’s souks, bounded by Almohad ramparts and the 17th-century Andalusian Wall.

Continue to the incomplete Hassan Tower, the Mausoleum of Mohammed V, and the Chella Necropolis, where Roman and Islamic ruins lie side by side, whispering endless stories of centuries past. Dinner and overnight in Rabat.

Day 2 – Rabat to Fes via Volubilis and Meknes (Roman Ruins & Imperial City)

After breakfast, depart Rabat along vast agricultural fields toward the second imperial city of Meknes. Stop to take pictures of the massive Bab El Mansour gate, a masterpiece of Moroccan architecture. The city tour of Meknes includes the Harri Souani stables, the old medina, and the beautiful royal palace grounds.

Continue to the sacred city of Moulay Idriss, built on two hills overlooking the countryside. You will have some time to rest in this beautiful small city before visiting the Roman ruins of Volubilis. This truly impressive setting was selected by UNESCO as a cultural heritage site for humanity. Its remarkably preserved mosaics and structures offer a window into Morocco’s classical past.

After your visit, depart for the great city of Fes for overnight.

Day 3 – Guided Tour of Fes (The Spiritual Capital)

Enjoy a full-day tour of Fes with a local guide. Fes is the oldest of Morocco’s imperial cities, embodying the country’s history and serving as its spiritual and religious capital. It has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The city’s numerous monuments have thousands of stories to tell. Visit Al Quaraouiyine University, the first university established in the world, founded in 859 AD. Explore Medersa Bou Inania, a 14th-century theological college with exquisite architecture. Tour the famous tanneries with their iconic dyeing pits, wander through the artisan quarters where craftsmen practice traditional skills, and lose yourself in the fascinating souks filled with color and activity.

These are just some of the many places you’ll discover in this ancient city. Overnight in Fes.

Day 4 – Fes to Tangier via Chefchaouen (Blue City & Rif Mountains)

After breakfast, you will leave for Tangier, traveling through farmland and small villages before reaching the impressive Rif Mountains. On the way, you will visit the white and blue town of Chefchaouen, which nestles in the hollow of two mountains—Ech-Chaoua (The Horns)—from which it takes its name.

Steep narrow streets lined with white and indigo limewashed buildings create a photographer’s paradise. Small squares, ornate fountains, and houses with elaborately decorated doorways and red tile roofs make this a delightful town. Enjoy lunch in one of the traditional restaurants with its atmospheric view over the Ech-Chaoua Mountains.

In the afternoon, we continue to Tangier for your drop-off. This marks the end of your 4-day journey through Morocco’s imperial cities and northern mountains.
